• Make copies of your ATM and credit cards, passport or ID and keep them with you but not with the originals or put them in in the safe at the hotel.
  • Carry a copy of your health record with emergency contact information.
  • Keep cash in 2 places on you - in a pocket and in a money wallet or in a secret pocket.
  • Obtain small bills for tips.
  • Carry only the money you will need for the day and keep the rest in the safe at the hotel or on the cruise ship.
  • Use a small wallet that hangs around your neck and can be tucked inside your shirt.
  • If you are carrying a purse make sure that it is tucked under your arm or in front of your body.
  • Keep your wallet in your front trouser pocket, not the back.
  • Check to see if it is safe to walk at your destination.
  • Do not go into areas where you will be alone unless it is safe.
  • Avoid displays of wealth with expensive cameras or jewelry.
  • Use only registered taxi services and approved or recommended public transport.
  • Try to act like a local: avoid carrying a guide book or map and don’t wear a fanny pack.
  • Make sure that you know how to make a phone call from your destination and carry a phone card if you do not have a mobile phone.
  • Carry your itinerary with your hotel information and phone number and tour director phone number.
  • Destroy the entry cards for hotel rooms. Do not leave one in the room.
